Return to Learn

To all Savannah R3 families ~

Savannah R3 staff and administration have spent countless hours over the last few weeks considering what school will look like in the fall.  Currently, all of our efforts are focused on a return to school plan.  We take great pride in creating meaningful learning opportunities for every student in our district while also making sure we maintain a safe learning environment.

SR3 will be providing two learning paths for students to choose from this fall.  We will offer both in-person learning and virtual learning, beginning on August 24th.  We plan to follow the 2020-21 school calendar adopted by the Board of Education in February.  Next week, parents and guardians will have the opportunity to declare their student(s) an in-person learner or virtual learner through Educational Enrollment Forms sent via e-mail and found on the district website.  Information about each learning path will be included with the Educational Enrollment Form to help parents and students make an educated decision about their family’s learning this fall. The Educational Enrollment Form will be available early next week.

Transportation

Over the last few months, the SR3 Board of Education has worked closely with Durham Transportation Services and our administration to explore every option for transporting our students safely and cost-effectively.  Adding additional busses to allow for one rider per seat on a school bus would require the district to double the fleet and the number of drivers needed, making this an unrealistic option.  Another option brought before the Board was restricting ridership to students who live more than a mile, two miles, or even three miles from the school but this option poses a huge safety risk for SR3 families.  After weighing these options the Board opted to keep all routes running, as usual, however, masks will be required for all drivers and riders. With no real way to social distance on a school bus, the district is encouraging parents to drive their children to school when possible.

2020-21 Transportation Guidelines:

  • Busses will be cleaned and disinfected after all morning and afternoon routes

  • Bus routes will run as usual

  • Masks will be required for drivers and bus monitors in close proximity to students

  • Students will be required to wear a mask on the bus, with no exceptions

  • Bus Registration MUST be completed by July 31, 2020, for every student wishing to ride the bus

    • Registration forms can be found here or on the district website.

    • If you require assistance in filling out this online form please contact your school or the bus company (816) 324-1400

    • Computers will also be available at the community meeting on July 28th at SMS.
