Children may remain at the Early Learning Center if they have ONE (but not more than one) of the following symptoms:

a temperature of up to 99ºF
A common cold - unless the director and the parents agree that isolation precautions should be taken
when a child has experienced vomiting only one time with no further problems or symptoms
when a child has experienced loose stools only one time with no further problems or symptoms.
after an illness has been evaluated by a physician, medication has been prescribed and any period of contagion has passed as determined by a licensed physician.

Children with ONE OR MORE of the following symptoms may not attend school and will be sent home if these symptoms occur:

fever equal to or greater than 100ºF
signs of possible severe illness including lethargy, irritability, persistent crying, or difficulty breathing
diarrhea - two abnormally loose stools within a 24-hour period
vomiting - two times within a 24 hour period
rash with fever or behavior change
pinkeye - tears, redness or eye lining followed by swelling, discharge, or pus
scabies, head lice, or other infestation - the child will need to be checked before being readmitted

If a child presents more than one of the symptoms listed above, they will be sent home. If a child develops a fever while at school, they will be isolated and cared for until the parent or emergency contact person can pick them up. Please understand that the decision for the child to remain at school or be sent home is based on the teacher's and/or director's discretion. For example, if the child has vomited and seems cranky, tired, or not well, the teacher may recommend the child be picked up. In these situations, the child may return the following day if the reasons for concern are no longer present.

Returning to school after an Illness

When children have been absent from school because of an illness and elevated temperature, the child needs to be kept home until they are fever-free for 24-hours without the use of medication.
