Track Records

Last weekend the track team competed at a meet in Atchison, and while there they found much success, and even crushed many school records.

Junior Olivia Stites broke the previous record in the 300-meter hurdles, set in 1984. Her time was 50.5 and this was only the second time she ran the 300-meter hurdles at a meet. At the same track meet she took third in the 100-meter hurdles.

“I'm pleasantly surprised how we are doing so far for it being only our second track meet. I think we are going to do really well this season and I'm happy at what we’ve accomplished, ” Coach Terry Hopkins said.

Sophomore Danica Rodriguez beat the high jump record with a height of 5’2”.

Freshman Iris Alvarez won the 3200-meter race with a time of 13:54 and took second in the 1600-meter race.

At this meet, many students beat their personal records. Sophomore Sailor Bodenhausen had a personal record in the 100-meter sprint and 300-meter hurdles. Senior Delaney Wilson threw a personal record in discus of 94 feet and took second in the meet. Freshmen Lucy Froelich, Rhyan Schrick and Ali Wampler all beat their personal records in the 400-meter run. Sophomore Hazel Kuhl beat her personal record in long jump.

Savannah is very proud of the track members and hopes to see more records broken in the future.
