Life is better when we're together

Parents, Students, Staff, and Community Members of the Savannah R3 School District,

With the increasing number of positive cases within our community and its effect on the number of students and staff members in quarantine, the district has had to make several difficult decisions to protect our students and staff.  While athletics and extracurricular activities are a vital part of our district, our ultimate goal is to keep our buildings open to serve the educational needs of our students.  Over the last several weeks the numbers of students and staff in quarantine have had an impact on the education of our students.  While we can not control the need to quarantine close contacts of a positive case, SR3 is diligently working to implement all mitigation strategies necessary to keep our buildings open and our students safe.  For this reason, the following changes have been made to homecoming week:

  • In accordance with guidelines SR3 already has in place to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 to our staff and student body, the Homecoming Parade will be held in the spring when the entire community can be invited and restrictions on gatherings may be lifted.

  • All SR3 schools will be released 2 hours early on Friday, October 2nd since the early out was included on the 2020-2021 academic calendar approved by the Board last February.

  • The football game will be held on Friday night, SHS will follow the MEC fan requirements and the game will be live-streamed.

  • Coronation will be held on the football field prior to Friday night’s game and live-streamed on the High School Facebook page.

  • Friday’s High School Pep Assembly will be held outside, during school hours, to allow for social distancing and it will be live-streamed to all SR3 campuses so that they can attend the Pep Rally virtually.

  • Homecoming Spirit (dress up) Days will be held district-wide and all SR3 campuses are encouraged to participate in school-wide homecoming celebrations.

  • High School art students will be decorating the windows and or sidewalks of businesses around the square the week of homecoming.

Please keep in mind that guidance around COVID-19 is ever-changing and any of these events can be canceled or modified as additional cases are brought to the attention of the district. More information about homecoming events will be released by each school closer to the event.

SHS homecoming is a staple in the SR3 community and this year should be no different  Let’s celebrate Homecoming 2020 with a week full of pride in our schools, our families, our upbringing, and our community.
