Winter Weather Procedures

This year Savannah R3 inclement weather days will look different than in the past.  Previously, inclement weather or “snow days” meant that students did not attend school, and the learning day would be made up at the end of the school year.  This year, SR3 will implement an Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) plan on inclement weather days.  Our virtual students will not notice a difference in the day.  However, our in-person students will have activities pre-assigned to them so that learning can continue from home.  (Don’t worry, there will still be time for sleeping in and throwing snowballs)

When there is a closure for inclement weather, families will receive communication from the District, letting them know we will be implementing the AMI plan.

  • Students in PreK through 8th grade* will utilize pre-assigned paper packets and optional web-based activities.

*We will not be sending home district Chromebooks for PreK or Elementary students on inclement weather days.

  • High School students will receive their assignments through Canvas.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) allows the district to count an AMI day as a regular attendance/ learning day so long as students are held accountable for completing assigned work.  This means that students will be expected to return assignments to their teacher(s) for a grade when school resumes.

Since SR3 will be utilizing the AMI plan to continue learning on inclement weather days, there should be no change to the last day of school for the 2020- 2021 school year -- Thursday, May 20th.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher or school principal.
